The Greater Houston Horse Council opposes HB244.
February 26, 2011
RESOLVED:
Whereas the Greater Houston Horse Council represents horse owners residing among the largest concentration of horses in the United States according to data from two Texas A&M equine censuses (200,000 horses) compiled during the last decade, we express firm opposition to passage of HB 244 which could enable the sale of a priceless natural asset of the State of Texas, Parrie Haynes Ranch. This recreation area is enjoyed by thousands of Texans and in particular by the horse owners of the state. It is managed by Texas Parks and Wildlife. Riding trails are diminishing in number across the United States. While the loss of any trail is a tragedy, the loss of the trails of the quality of Parrie Haynes would be truly irreplaceable. Again, we urge a no vote on HB 244.
